Growing up, one of my favorite lunches was a classic BLT sandwich with a side of potato chips - there's just something magical about the combination of crispy bacon, cool lettuce, and juicy tomatoes that hits all the right notes. When I started eating healthier and doing programs like Whole30, I found myself missing that familiar comfort until I realized I could capture all those beloved flavors in salad form. This BLT salad was born from that craving, and honestly, I think I love it even more than the original sandwich because you get more of everything good in every single bite.
This BLT salad represents the best kind of healthy eating - the kind where you don't feel like you're sacrificing anything. The crispy bacon provides that satisfying crunch and smoky richness, while butter lettuce offers a tender, slightly sweet base that's far more interesting than the iceberg you'd find on a traditional BLT. I've added creamy avocado to the mix because, well, avocado makes everything better, and it adds a richness that helps this salad feel like a complete meal rather than just a side dish.
What makes this BLT salad particularly special is how quickly it comes together and how satisfying it is despite being so simple. The homemade vinaigrette takes just seconds to whisk together and adds a tangy brightness that cuts through the richness of the bacon and avocado perfectly. This is the salad I turn to when I want something that feels indulgent but keeps me on track with my health goals - it's Whole30 and Paleo compliant without tasting like diet food.
In my kitchen, this BLT salad has become a go-to lunch that I look forward to rather than endure. I love that I can prep the components ahead of time - cook the bacon on Sunday, wash the lettuce, make extra dressing - and have a restaurant-quality salad ready in minutes on busy weekdays. It's proof that eating well doesn't have to be complicated or boring, and that sometimes the best recipes are just clever riffs on the classics we already love.

What is a BLT Salad?
A BLT salad is a deconstructed version of the classic bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, served as a hearty salad with all the beloved flavors but without the bread. Instructions
- 1
Roughly chop the butter lettuce, wash, spin/dry, and place in a serving bowl. Any good quality lettuce or greens can be used. I just like how the texture and flavor of butter lettuce work with bacon.
- 2
Add bacon, tomatoes, and avocado to the lettuce and toss with the vinaigrette dressing or your dressing of choice.
- 3
Ranch or blue cheese dressings work well too but of course, that wouldn't be whole30 :)
