Caprese Salad

This Caprese Salad recipe is about as simple, but delicious, as it gets in Italian cuisine. There are a variety of ways to prepare and plate, but the simplest method using whole slices and leaves seems to be the best for me. I sometimes substitute Avocado in place of the Mozzarella for a slightly healthier version.

Ingredients
- 2 tomatoes sliced, 1/4-in thick
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella sliced, 1/4-in thick
- 10-15 leaves fresh basil
- olive oil
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Layer the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil on a plate.
- Drizzle lightly with olive oil.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- (Optional) Drizzle lightly with balsamic vinegar for an added dimension of flavor!
