Caprese Salad

This Caprese Salad recipe is about as simple, but delicious, as it gets in Italian cuisine. There are a variety of ways to prepare and plate, but the simplest method using whole slices and leaves seems to be the best for me. I sometimes substitute Avocado in place of the Mozzarella for a slightly healthier version.

A traditional Italian salad simply consisting of tomato, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil seasoned with salt, pepper, and olive oil.

Ingredients
  • 2 tomatoes sliced, 1/4-in thick
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella sliced, 1/4-in thick
  • 10-15 leaves fresh basil
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper
Instructions
  1. Layer the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil on a plate.

  2. Drizzle lightly with olive oil.

  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  4. (Optional) Drizzle lightly with balsamic vinegar for an added dimension of flavor!
